Murfreesboro's Middle Tennessee Career Center Connects Job Seekers With Employers
“Where jobs and people connect” is the slogan of the Middle Tennessee Career Center in Murfreesboro‚ and the phrase aptly describes the center’s role in the community.
“Our basic mission is to connect job seekers with employers‚ and we do that in several ways‚” explains Gina Greenlee‚ senior career development facilitator at the center.
Career counseling‚ job-readiness workshops‚ listings of employment openings and a resource center are available to job seekers.
The center’s annual New Year‚ New Career Job Fair‚ which takes place in January at Murfreesboro’s Patterson Park Community Center‚ drew about 1‚200 job seekers and 25 employers in 2006.
“Even if a company doesn’t have job openings at the time‚ a good recruiter is always looking‚” Greenlee says.
Funded by federal grants‚ the career center partners with advocates for seniors‚ veterans and people with disabilities to ensure those populations get the help they need.
The center also takes its career development opportunities directly to Rutherford County schools. In particular‚ high school students are most interested in studies and internships for allied health professions‚ such as licensed practical nurses and pharmacy technicians‚ Greenlee says.
In October 2006‚ the center moved from its cramped quarters near the downtown Murfreesboro square to spacious new digs on Old Fort Parkway‚ adjacent to the Tennessee Technology Center.
“We are so excited because it means we can serve job seekers and employers better‚” Greenlee says.
